Sonoko Asabuki studied modern viola at the National University in Tokio and the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg before turning to the baroque violin under the guidance of Chiara Banchini, Leila Schayegh und Amandine Beyer at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.


Sonoko Asabuki has performed under the direction of Chiara Banchini, Trevor Pinock, Gottfried von der Goltz and regularly works with Capriccio Barockorchester, La Cetra Barockorchester, Il Profondo, L’allegra Fonte and Bach Collegium Japan. As a member of Den Haag Piano Quintet she won the International Van Wassenaer Competition for early music in Amsterdam in 2011.
