Born in Buenos Aires, Juan Manuel Quintana started studying viola da gamba in his hometown with Ricardo Massun. He pursued further studies in Geneva with Arianne Maurette, at the Schola  Cantorum Basiliensis with Paolo Pandolfo and finally at the Paris Conservatoire with Christophe Coin.


He has appeared as a soloist inEurope, the United States, Latin America and Japan and with  celebrated ensembles such as Les"Musiciens du Louvre,"Concerto Vocale","Hespèrion XXI and the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne. An active recording artist, Quintana’s Bach, Buxtehude and Marais albumshave been hailed by the specialized press.


He gained experience in opera productions assisting Mark Minkowski from 1995 to 2005. Since then, he has been invited to conduct concerts in Europe, south East Asia and in South America and has led performances of Monteverdi's three operas and Händel's Rodelinda in Argentina and Chile
